Adventure! Day 17 - Salt Lake City & Donut Falls
Wednesday. Today is Wednesday and I didn’t know that until I looked at the calendar. I did know it was the 17th, because it’s day 17 and the days line up since we left on the first. Some of us are still recovering from the hike in Colorado. I am some of us.
We all slept so well because we were in a basement. Florida doesn’t have basements, so a house with 3 floors is a novelty to all of us. I am a flatlander all the way and prefer no stairs inside or out. I watched that documentary about the blue zones and how everyone who lives in high places and has to climb to get anywhere lives forever; I’m pretty sure they don’t and it just feels that way because they get so tired of climbing all the time.
Kids (who are mostly adults actually) are off on a hike with Damien, Tara, and Boo. I’m pretty sure they are going to see a waterfall in the canyon. There is a family campground there, and I’ve heard there are hammocks so anyone who doesn’t want to hike can relax. I’ve also heard it’s 10 degrees cooler there, so maybe in the mid 80s? Hopefully it’s nice.
I am going with Emme and Rose to drop Naomi off for her mission trip. Ultimately, she’ll end up in Peru. This drive is less than an hour though, and when we get back we will likely go to the canyon.
This morning we had a farewell brunch - we got to meet Emme’s mom and grandparents and to visit with her sister too. Emme grilled shish-kabob skewers and we laid out a charcuterie with all sorts of yummy things and everyone got full.
Emme’s family has a property in Spruces campground in the Wasatch mountain range. It’s really beautiful there. After we dropped off Naomi, we joined everyone else there. Alivia is allergic to the trees here and her lungs were itchy; we found her and Kayleigh in a hammock down by the river. Everyone else went and hiked to Donut falls. Liam showed me a video of some of them inside the waterfall. It looked like an intense hike, but it’s rated as easy by the Utah official people and I’m starting to think it’s me and not them. If Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Colorado all rate hikes the same, I think it’s time for a reckoning of some sort - or maybe I’ll call a meeting and let them all know they are completely and totally grading these things wrong.
Tonight Emme is taking us out on the town. Not sure what kids will do, but maybe watch a movie.
We did in fact go out on the town and kids did in fact watch a movie. They watched Kronk’s New Groove. We went to White Horse Spirits and Kitchen; the food and spirits were fantastic and the service was 5 stars.
