Adventure! Day 14 - Euphoria, Lake San Cristobal, Climb
Today is the official halfway point of our trip if we stay on schedule. This morning we went out for breakfast and coffee at a place called Euphoria. It was fantastic. We had to wait, but there was coffee and water and cornhole and giant jenga and live music and the weather was beautiful and we were happy.
After breakfast, we went out to Lake San Cristobal. Lydia drove us all in the bus again. We didn’t park by the water because Lydia thought the grade might have been a little too steep for Miss America, but after walking down it I thought it would have been ok.
If you ask me, it was the perfect amount of time to be out on the lake. Some of us went swimming and some of us went boating and some of us went over a bridge and it was perfectly lovely.
It was c-c-c-cold and a storm came up over the mountains, so we got back on the bus and drove back home. Gabe just happened to arrive with the thunder and just in time to laugh at us for packing it all in. At least I think he was laughing - maybe he was making sure we got in safe. We will never know. But we did get in safe, and now we’re all eating ice cream and watching TV.
We are at the end of another long day. Today had a nice middle part full of downtime, and there was guitar playing and song writing and blogging and Derry Girls (and laundry).
Eli went on a long bike ride with the Hoy family (I heard they forgot to watch the baby and he accidentally went all BMX bikes on them), and then Ollivander and Stella joined once they got home for some Uno, except it was a fancy new version where you flip your hand. There was some intense debate surrounding the rules.
After our morning outing and our afternoon of resting, we all got dressed and went out for dinner at a place called Climb. Silas told us jokes and then we played would you rather while we waited. Would you rather have a pet dragon or a pet unicorn? It was a good time celebrating Lydia’s birthday, even if it was a little early. She will be another year older soon enough (10 days or so), and we won’t be here then, so it was nice to sing Happy Birthday and eat cupcakes together. I did not eat cupcakes. Not because I’m virtuous - just because I don’t like them. But I heard they were delicious and I saw Eli eat 4 in a row.
Our bus is making a squeaking noise and we’ve isolated it to the leaf springs. Lydia said it’s probably because it’s so dry here. Damien asked Gabe for grease and Gabe is going to help him get it from the county shop. I hope it works, because the squeaking would drive a sane person mad. It sounds like whistling. In other bus news, our back up camera started working again - maybe it was user error before when it wasn’t working.
We’ve abandoned the 14er hike idea (something about the weather not looking great and some logistical issues with transportation) in favor of some other hike that everyone can do to varying degrees. I’m not exactly sure what it’s about, but it involves waking up at 7 and a 30 minute drive. So that’s that - a little sad for the very adventurous, but there is time in life for climbing big mountains even if there is not time tomorrow.
